Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman, Iran

At the first, I would like to thank Prof. Maruyama that he let me to have a 6 months visiting period at Institute of Fluid Science (IFS) as an internship researcher. I was in Sendai from May 22 to November 20, 2006.The purpose of my visiting was to complete my pervious work done at my home country in the field of Radiative Heat Transfer.

I studied new methods used in solving the radiative heat transfer problems. The most important ones was Radiation Element Method by Ray Emission Model (REM) developed by Prof. Maruyama to solve radiative heat transfer problems in complex geometries. I found that this method was so useful for me to complete my research. I had to link this method to some optimization methods such as Genetic Algorithm and Conjugate Gradient methods to optimize the radiative enclosures.

Prof. Maruyama and laboratory members arranged several opportunities for social and academic activities. During my research at Tohoku University, I participated weekly presentation by Prof. Maruyama and Marutafs laboratory members. It was a useful activity for students to improve their English skill and obtain new ideas from others.

I also published and presented a paper in 3rd International Conference on Flow Dynamics (ICFD 2006) entitled gInverse boundary design of radiant enclosures using conjugate gradient methodh. This conference was a great experience for me to meet other researchers and discuss with them to exchange some information in my research field.

I also prepared a paper entitled gOptimal boundary design of radiant enclosures using micro genetic algorithmh to submit it to journal of numerical heat transfer.

I appreciate the supports from 21st century COE International Internship Program. The administrative staff of the program is very helpful and attentive toward foreigner students. My stay was very organized from the first day and place of my accommodation

Was close to the Katahira campus. Sendai was a great city with nice and friendly people, so I could find good friends during my stay in Sendai.

At the end, I appreciate again all the people who made my internship at Tohoku University possible, especially Prof. Maruyama and also Mrs. Nao Konahara that she helped me when I had a problem or question and  she tried to remove problems in front of me.
