The Fourteenth International Symposium on

Advanced Fluid Information

  Sendai International Center, Sendai, Japan
October 8-10, 2014

AFI-2014 was held with ICFD2014. Detailed information is available in website of ICFD2014.

History

The first AFI symposium was held in October 2001 at the Miyagi Zao Royal Hotel, Sendai. Under the 2001 invited speakers' encouragement, the organizers decided to host a similar large symposium in every three years, while a smaller, more focused mini-symposium is to be held in the interim years.

The second symposium was held in December 2002 at the National Olympics Memorial Youth Center in Tokyo and focused on fusion of EFD (Experimental Fluid Dynamics) and CFD. The symposium was organized in a single session, allowing for presentation and in-depth discussion among the entire participants.

The third symposium was held in November 2003 in U.S.A., to increase the conference visibility and significance in the world audience. For easy access for participants, Syracuse University Lubin House in New York City was selected to facilitate the small-time for in-depth presentation and active audience interactions on biomedical and environmental quality issues.

The fourth symposium was held in November 2004 together with the first Transdisciplinary Fluid Integration (TFI) symposium at the Sendai International Center. Based on the success of AFI research, IFS has established a new research center, Transdiciplinary Fluid Integration Research Center, in April 2003. The center is responsible for research and application of integrated experimental and computational approaches to solve transdisciplinary fluid problems in various science and engineering fields.

The fifth AFI symposium was held in December, 2005 in IFS. This symposium was held in collaboration with JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency). In 2005, IFS and JAXA established an agreement for promoting researches on aerospace sciences. In AFI-2005, latest works on the scope of aerospace, rarefied gas, plasma, and bio-fluid were presented and discussed. The second TFI symposium was held in October, 2005 at the Hotel Hyuga, Miyazaki, one of the best subtropical climate area.

The sixth AFI symposium was held in October, 2006 at JAXA in Chofu, Tokyo cosponsored by JAXA and IFS. Latest works on the scope of Aerospace Science and Technology focusing on MEMS/NANO technologies, and Bio-fluid Science and Engineering were presented and discussed. The third TFI symposium was held in June, 2006 at the Hotel Taikanso, Matsushima, Miyagi to further explore the potentials of the TFI technologies especially from the aspect of "Shape Modeling and Analysis in Fluid Science".

The seventh AFI symposium combined with fourth TFI symposium, AFI/TFI-2007 was held in December, 2007 in Tohoku University. The symposium was held as the 100th anniversary of Tohoku University event, applied to wide spectrum of fluid sciences including aviation weather and safety, biological flows, nano-processing, thin film development, advanced visualization.

The eighth AFI/TFI symposium, AFI/TFI-2008, was held again in December, at Sakura Hall, Tohoku University. The focus of AFI/TFI-2008 was on nano-processing, such as the nano-scaled heat and flow phenomena, bio-nano applications, and the damage-free nano-scaled devices.

The ninth AFI/TFI symposium, AFI/TFI-2009, was held in November, 2009 at the Hotel Metropolitan Sendai.

The tenth AFI/TFI symposium, AFI/TFI-2010, was held in November, 2010 at the Sendai International Center. A Workshop on Atomization and Spray Technology was held.

The eleventh AFI/TFI symposium, AFI/TFI-2011, was held in November, 2011 at the Hotel Metropolitan Sendai. This symposium was composed two sessions: Workshop on Clean and Efficient Combustion Technology, and IFS Collaborative Research Forum.

The twelfth AFI/TFI symposium, AFI/TFI-2012, was held in September, 2012 at the Hotel Metropolitan Sendai. This symposium was composed two sessions: Transdisciplinary Fluid Integration Session and IFS Collaborative Research Forum. Because this is the final year of TFI Research Center at IFS, Transdisciplinary Fluid Integration Session summarized the ten-year research activities at TFI Research Center.

The thirteenth AFI symposium, AFI-2013, was jointly held with ICFD2013 in November, 2013 at the Sendai International Center. PS1: IFS Collaborative Research Forum and PS3: Fluid Science Research Award Lectures were organized as sessions of the AFI symposium.
