The Twenty-second International Symposium on

Advanced Fluid Information

Online
November 9-11, 2022

AFI-2022 will be held with ICFD2022. Detailed information is
available in website of ICFD2022.

Scope

The term, "Advanced Fluid Information" (AFI) was created at Institute of Fluid Science (IFS), Tohoku University to signify the paradigm shift in fluid dynamics research (experimental, numerical or theoretical) and its application, with the help of information and communication technology. In 2001, the first International Symposium on Advanced Fluid Information (AFI-2001) was held in Zao, Miyagi, and since then, the AFI symposium has been held successively twenty one times. Its history is summarized in the IFS website.

Coordinated with the AFI symposium, the International Conference on Flow Dynamics (ICFD) has been organized by the two Tohoku University COE programs,“The 21st Century International COE on Fluid Dynamics (21COE, 2003 - 2007)” and “Global COE Program World Center of Education and Research for Trans-disciplinary Flow Dynamics (GCOE, 2008 - 2012)”. In 2013, ICFD has been hosted by the Institute of Fluid Science. Since 2014, the organizing committee of ICFD has been hosting the conference and the Institute of Fluid Science are providing a powerful support for that. Through this series, the spirit of the AFI symposium and its main aims are continued.

Since 2010, Institute of Fluid Science has been acknowledged as the Joint Usage/Research Center, "Fluid Science Research Center", by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. The program promotes collaborative research projects, in which our staff works with researchers from other organizations.

Now the AFI symposium has the important task of opening the research results to the societies through the holding of the Collaborative Research Forum, as well as extending the collaborative projects to researchers over the world through the expanding activities of the International Joint Usage/Research Center.

Even now, the COVID-19 pandemic has not been completely overcome. In order to give priority to the safety of participants, we made decision to hold the AFI symposium as a web-based meeting. AFI-2022 is jointly held with ICFD2022 and the achievement of the joint projects is presented in OS22: IFS Collaborative Research Forum and in OS23: IFS Lyon Center Collaborative Research Forum. It is highly anticipated that this symposium will foster a productive dialogue among participants and promote further collaboration in the field of Fluid Science and Advanced Fluid Information.
