(7) Origins |
Prototype of KAIST was Korea Advanced Institute of Science (KAIS), which was established in 1971. In 1981, the Institute merged with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), thus producing KAIST. In 1989, KIST and KAIS were separated again. KAIS then merged with the Korea Institute of Technology (KIT), a government-funded undergraduate college for science and engineering. This new academic institution retained the name KAIST. |
