A Simulator for Shock Wave Reflections
We are proud to announce the release of Shock Wave Reflections (SWR). The Software provides numerical solutions of shock wave reflections over a cone or a wedge for incident shock Mach number ranging from 1.001 to 10, and for any wedge angle or the semi-apex angle of the cone, on just one click.
The Software is based on a robust computational fluid dynamics (CFD) module. The CFD module integrates the compressible Euler equations using an up-to-date high-resolution technique, and its computational efficiency is enhanced by a solution-adaptive grid technique (VAS2D), proposed by Prof. M. Sun. The Software is supported by a powerful post-processing module that allows on-time control of the visualization of intermediate numerical results during integrating the Euler equations, which was mainly developed by Dr. H.W. Zheng during his stay in CIR.
The Software is developed for the Windows operating system (Mac version is not available).

The appearance of the Software
The Software allows one to move and zoom in/out an image, and allows one to zoom in the interested portion of the image specified by mouse. The image shown on the right window of the calculator can be copied, and pasted directly in Microsoft Word, Adobe Photoshop, and others.

Animated results of shock wave reflections over wedges for shock Mach number varying from 1.05 to 8.00.
In order to make the animation for each wedge angle, density contour plots for selected incident shock Mach numbers are first computed using FlowWatch SWR V1.12, and then they are put together by using Adobe ImageReady.
New in Release SWR1.13 (July 13, 2007)
- This version fixed a bug for 50 degree wedge by using an unstructred grid.
New in Release SWR1.12 (June 18, 2007)
- This version fixed the crash for the wedge angle ranging from 87.5 degrees to 90 degrees.
- This version improved the bi-linear coloring method for contour distribution and contour lines.
- This version fixed the crash appeared in V1.1, when initially only velocity arrows are checked.
New in Release SWR1.1 (June 4, 2007)
- This version is about 20% faster than the previous version. It was compiled by Intel Visual FORTRAN Complier V9.1 instead of Digital Visual FORTRAN V6.0.
- This version included a novel bi-linear coloring method for contour distribution and contour lines. It allows the dynamic color expression of the full range of data in the course of shock wave phenomena, without resulting in the color-changing background.
- This version fixed a few bugs related to the legends and the sketch of shock reflection that might appear or disappear in an unexpected manner.
- This version replaced two monochrome icons by colored ones that are obtained by numerical results of a shock wave of M=1.3 reflecting over a 30 degree wedge or cone, respectively.
