The Fourteenth International Symposium on

Advanced Fluid Information

  Sendai International Center, Sendai, Japan
October 8-10, 2014

AFI-2014 will be held with ICFD2014. Detailed information is available in website of ICFD2014.

Scope

The term, "Advanced Fluid Information" (AFI) was created at the Institute of Fluid Science (IFS), Tohoku University to signify the paradigm shift in fluid dynamics research (experimental, numerical or theoretical) and its application with the help of both distributed and powerful information and communication technology. In 2001, the first AFI symposium was held in Zao, Miyagi, and the symposium has been held successively thirteen times. Its history is summarized in the website.

Coordinated with the AFI symposium, the International Conference on Flow Dynamics (ICFD) has been organized by the two Tohoku University COE programs,"The 21st Century International COE on Fluid Dynamics (21COE, 2003 - 2007)" and "Global COE Program World Center of Education and Research for Trans-disciplinary Flow Dynamics (the GCOE, 2008 - 2012)" and, since 2013, ICFD has been hosted by the Institute of Fluid Science. The spirit of the AFI symposium and its main aims were continued by the ICFD.

In 2010, Institute of Fluid Science was acknowledged as the Joint Usage/Research Center, "Fluid Science Research Center", by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. The program promotes collaborative research projects, in which our staff works with researchers from other organizations.

The AFI symposium now has the important task of opening the research results to the societies through the holding of the Collaborative Research Forum, as well as extending the collaborating research to researchers over the world and enhancing the establishment of the International Joint Usage/Research Center.

The AFI symposium is jointly held with ICFD2014 as the IFS Collaborative Research Forum. It is highly anticipated that the AFI symposium will foster a productive dialogue among participants and promote further collaboration in the field of Fluid Science and Advanced Fluid Information.
