C2C Non-Destructive Testing International Winter School 2016 was held in Tohoku University, Japan

School Program

C2C Non-Destructive Testing International Winter School 2016 was open on March 8 to 15, 2016 in Tohoku University, Japan. The school was organized by JSPS Core to Core Program, Innovative Energy Research Center, Institute of Fluid Science, Tohoku University, Tohoku University Fundamental Research and Human Resources Development Program towards the Decommissioning of Nuclear Power Plants, and Japan Society of Maintenology, Tohoku-Hokkaido Chapter and The Japan Society for Non-Destructive Inspection. This year we focused on nuclear decommissioning at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plants where we will consider very difficult tasks in extreme environments, and learned and elaborated on how NDT and structural health monitoring techniques can enhance nuclear decommissioning. Nine academic lectures and practices was provided by reputable scientists and engineers. Students enjoyed one day NDT training and a scientific tour to Tokai Power Station and Japan Atomic Energy Agency to study about the current situations of decommissioning.

C2C ELyT Workshop 2016 was held in Lyon, France.

JSPS Core-to-Core Program " Fifth workshop on Smart Layered Materials and Structures for Energy Saving" was held on January 20-21, 2016 at Maison Villemanzy in Lyon, France. This workshop was dedicated to discuss the future plan after C2C program and ELyTLab program among French, German and Japanese member of C2C program, and we got outline of ELyTGlobal project to be proposed soon.

JSPS Core-to-Core Program " Third International Symposium on Smart Layered Materials and Structures for Energy Saving" was held in Sendai International Center.

JSPS Core-to-Core Program " Second International Symposium on Smart Layered Materials and Structures for Energy Saving" was held on October 28- 29, 2016 at Sendai International Center. This seminar focused on the concrete discussion among the project members to realize smart layered materials and structures for energy saving. 17 researchers presented their progress in the joint research and fruitful discussions were made. We also organized a panel session to discuss the future perspective of the core-to-core project and multi-lateral joint research toward establishment of multi-lateral joint laboratory. ELyT School 2015 was held in INSA-Lyon, France

ELyT School 2015 in Lyon, an international summer school specialized for graduate students, was open on August 30 - September 9, 2016, in Lyon, Japan. The ELyT School is held every year in September in either of Lyon, France or Sendai, Japan alternately, and ELyT School 2015 was the Seventh of its series. This year 31 students participate from France and Japan. ELyT School 2015 in Sendai was sponsored partly by JSPS Core-to-core Program, International Research Core on Smart Layered Materials and Structures for Energy Saving.

JSPS Core-to-Core Program 4th Workshop “China-Japan Joint Workshop on Flow Dynamics and Transport Phenomena, Tsinghua University 2015"

JSPS Core-to-Core Program 4th Workshop was hold on June 24 ? 25 at Meng-Min-Wei Science and technology Building, Tsinghua University. 35 researchers participated the workshop from Tsinghua University, Tohoku University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. 22 papers from the academic fields of fluid engineering, materials engineering, heat transfer and biomedical engineering were presented, and interdisciplinary discussions were extensively made in the workshop. In addition, Dr. M. Watanabe, deputy director of JSPS Beijing Representative Office introduced their activities, especially backup activities for international joint research.

JSPS Core-to-Core Program 3rd Workshop “The 1st NUAA -Tohoku University Joint Symposium on Fluid Science, Aerospace Engineering and Smart Structure Technology "

JSPS Core-to-Core Program 3rd Workshop was held on June 21- 22, 2015 at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. This workshop was sponsored by State Key Laboratory of Mechanics and Control of Mechanical Structures (MCMS), Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA), Institute of Fluid Science (IFS), Tohoku University and SPS Core-to-Core Program, A. Advanced Research Networks, “International research core on smart layered materials and structures for energy saving”. The objective of this symposium is to foster the exchange in the specialized field of Fluid Science, Aerospace Engineering and Smart Structure Technology. 16 lectures and 22 poster presentations were made.

2014

C2C Non-destructive Testing International Winter School 2015 was held in Saarland University, Germany.

C2C Non-destructive Testing International Winter School 2015 was open on February 22 to 28, 2015 in Saarland University, Germany. The school is an international event mainly driven by the four institutions in C2C program: Saarland University, INSA-Lyon, NUAA and Tohoku University. Six academic lectures will be provided by reputable scientists, and along participating students performed projects being related to quality control, fatigue damage, structural health monitoring and inspection robotics. Students visited to Dillinger Hutte being one of the most reputable international steel manufacturers.

ELyT Workshop 2015 was held in Matsushima, Japan.

ELyT Workshop 2015 in Matsushima ? Comprehensive Research on Materials, Systems and Energy for Sustainable Future, In Memory of Professor Pierre Francois Gobin” was held on February 18 - 21, 2015 in Matsushima, in Japan. ELyT Lab is a French-Japanese joint research laboratory, and 72 papers, most of which are results of the joint research activities, were presented in the workshop. In addition, future direction of the framework were extensively discussed.

ELyT School 2014 was held in Tohoku University, Sendai.

ELyT School 2014 in Sendai, an international summer school specialized for graduate students, was open on August 31 - September 9, 2014, in Sendai, Japan. The ELyT School is held every year in September in either of Lyon, France or Sendai, Japan alternately, and ELyT School 2014 was the Sixth of its series. This year 47 students participate from France, Germany, China and Japan. ELyT School 2014 in Sendai was sponsored partly by JSPS Core-to-core Program, International Research Core on Smart Layered Materials and Structures for Energy Saving.

JSPS Core-to-Core Program " 1st Seminar on smart layered materials and structures for energy saving " was held in Tohoku University.

On March 25 and 26, 2013, JSPS Core-to-Core Program " 1st Seminar on smart layered materials and structures for energy saving " was held in Tohoku University in collaboration with "Symposium on advanced materials and nondestructive testing techniques for a secure and safe society" hosted by the Japan Society for Non-Destructive Inspection. Four coordinators, Prof. Takagi (Tohoku University), Prof. Cavaille (INSA-Lyon, France), Prof. Boller (IZFP, Germany), Prof. Qiu (NUAA, China) gave a plenary talks in the seminar.

Dr. Naoto Wada, Professor, Tohoku University

ELyT School 2013 in Lyon, an international summer school specialized for graduate students, was open on September 1 through 10, 2013, in Lyon, France. The ELyT School is held every year in September in either of Lyon, France or Sendai, Japan alternately, and ELyT School 2013 was the fifth of its series. Every year 20 to 30 international students participate in. ELyT School 2013 in Lyon was sponsored partly by JSPS Core-to-core Program, International Research Core on Smart Layered Materials and Structures for Energy Saving.


Main objectives of ELyT School are; 1) to provide with students wider and global perspectives, 2) to give students confidence, 3) to provide with students chances of communicating and coordinating among international colleagues, and eventually, 4) to educate students to be capable of taking leadership in respective areas in future.


Curricula of the 10 days were quite dense with varieties and are comprised from academic lectures given by professors of INSA-Lyon, ECL or Tohoku university, university facility tours, lessons on French language and culture, student presentation and discussion, group project works and discussions, and so forth. Main campuses of the school were set in INSA-Lyon and ECL. On Sunday, students made a bus tour to Chamonix Mont Blanc.


In the ELyT School 2013 in Lyon, 33 students from Japan (14 from Tohoku, 1 from Tokai and 1 from Kobe), China (1 from Shanghai Jiao Tong), Sweden (2 from KTH), Germany (1 from Saarland) and France (8 from INSA-Lyon, 4 from ECL and 1 from ENISE) participated.


Followings are the three topics the students worked for the Student Projects:
(Team 1) How to accomplish economical development without spoiling world environmental condition
(Team 2) Fostering safety, longevity and toughness of infrastructure
(Team 3) International cooperation to improve the earth environment


Prof. Fukunishi, Izawa and Uchimoto visited NUAA.

On September 4th 2013, Prof. Fukunishi, Izawa and Uchimoto visited Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and discuss the joint research in the framework of C2C project. Prof. Fukunishi also gave a lecture entitled "Flow control attempts in transitional boundary layers and sound generating cavity flows using active and passive methods" to students at NUAA.

Prof. Takagi and Uchimoto visited IZFP-D.

Prof. Takagi and Uchimoto visited Fraunhofer Institute for NDT (IZFP) in Dresden on September 12 and 13. They discuss the future collaboration in the framework of C2C program with Prof. Norbert Meyendorf (Director) and Prof. Henning Heuer.
