ELyT School 2013 in Lyon, an international summer school specialized for graduate students, was open on September 1 through 10, 2013, in Lyon, France. The ELyT School is held every year in September in either of Lyon, France or Sendai, Japan alternately, and ELyT School 2013 was the fifth of its series. Every year 20 to 30 international students participate in. ELyT School 2013 in Lyon was sponsored partly by JSPS Core-to-core Program, International Research Core on Smart Layered Materials and Structures for Energy Saving.
Main objectives of ELyT School are; 1) to provide with students wider and global perspectives, 2) to give students confidence, 3) to provide with students chances of communicating and coordinating among international colleagues, and eventually, 4) to educate students to be capable of taking leadership in respective areas in future.
Curricula of the 10 days were quite dense with varieties and are comprised from academic lectures given by professors of INSA-Lyon, ECL or Tohoku university, university facility tours, lessons on French language and culture, student presentation and discussion, group project works and discussions, and so forth. Main campuses of the school were set in INSA-Lyon and ECL. On Sunday, students made a bus tour to Chamonix Mont Blanc.
In the ELyT School 2013 in Lyon, 33 students from Japan (14 from Tohoku, 1 from Tokai and 1 from Kobe), China (1 from Shanghai Jiao Tong), Sweden (2 from KTH), Germany (1 from Saarland) and France (8 from INSA-Lyon, 4 from ECL and 1 from ENISE) participated.
Followings are the three topics the students worked for the Student Projects:
(Team 1) How to accomplish economical development without spoiling world environmental condition
(Team 2) Fostering safety, longevity and toughness of infrastructure
(Team 3) International cooperation to improve the earth environment
