Terms of Service
Institute of Fluid Science, Tohoku University — ICFD Secretariat
These Terms of Service (hereinafter referred to as "Terms") set forth the conditions of use for the services (hereinafter referred to as "Service") provided on this website by the ICFD Secretariat of the Institute of Fluid Science, Tohoku University (hereinafter referred to as "Secretariat"). Registered users (hereinafter referred to as "Users") shall use the Service in accordance with these Terms.
- Article 1 (Application)

1. These Terms shall apply to all relationships between Users and the Secretariat relating to the use of the Service.
2. In addition to these Terms, the Secretariat may establish various rules and regulations regarding the use of the Service (hereinafter referred to as "Individual Provisions"). Such Individual Provisions shall constitute part of these Terms, regardless of their title or designation.
3. In the event of any conflict between these Terms and the Individual Provisions referred to in the preceding paragraph, the Individual Provisions shall take precedence, unless otherwise specified therein.
- Article 2 (User Registration)

1. Registration for the Service shall be completed when an applicant agrees to these Terms, submits a registration application through the method designated by the Secretariat, and the Secretariat approves said application.
2. The Secretariat may decline a registration application if it determines that any of the following circumstances apply to the applicant. The Secretariat shall bear no obligation to disclose the reasons for such a decision: 2.1 If false information was provided at the time of registration
2.2 If the application is from a person who has previously violated these Terms
2.3 In any other case where the Secretariat deems the registration inappropriate3. Registration for the Service must be completed by the end of the second month preceding the month in which the conference is held.
- Article 3 (Management of User ID and Password)

1. Users shall be responsible for the appropriate management of their User ID and password for the Service.
2. If a login is made using a combination of a User ID and password that matches the registered information, the Secretariat shall deem such use to have been made by the User who registered that User ID.
3. The Secretariat shall bear no responsibility for any damages arising from the use of a User ID and password by a third party, except in cases of intentional misconduct or gross negligence on the part of the Secretariat.
- Article 4 (Fees and Payment Methods)

Users shall pay the participation registration fee separately determined by the Secretariat and displayed on this website, as consideration for the Service, using the payment method designated by the Secretariat.
- Article 5 (Prohibited Activities)

Users shall not engage in any of the following activities when using the Service:
1. Acts that violate laws or regulations, or public order and morals
2. Acts related to criminal conduct
3. Acts that infringe upon copyrights, trademarks, or other intellectual property rights contained in the Service
4. Acts that destroy or interfere with the server or network functions of the Secretariat, other Users, or any third party
5. Acts that commercially exploit information obtained through the Service
6. Acts that may interfere with the operation of the Secretariat's services
7. Acts of unauthorized access or any attempt thereof
8. Acts of collecting or accumulating personal information of other Users for improper purposes
9. Acts that cause disadvantage, damage, or discomfort to other Users or third parties
10. Advertising, promotional, solicitation, or commercial activities on the Service without the Secretariat's authorization
11. Acts of providing benefits, directly or indirectly, to antisocial forces in connection with the Secretariat's services
12. Any other acts deemed inappropriate by the Secretariat - Article 6 (Suspension of the Service)

1. The Secretariat may suspend or interrupt all or part of the Service without prior notice to Users if it determines that any of the following circumstances exist:
1.1 When performing maintenance, inspection, or updates to the computer systems associated with the Service
1.2 When a deadline separately established by the Secretariat has passed
1.3 When provision of the Service becomes difficult due to force majeure events such as earthquakes, lightning, fire, power outages, or natural disasters
1.4 When computers or communication lines are interrupted due to an accident
1.5 In any other case where the Secretariat determines that provision of the Service is difficult2. The Service's computer system operations will be shut down in the month prior to the conference.
3. The Secretariat shall bear no responsibility for any disadvantage or damage suffered by Users or third parties due to the suspension or interruption of the Service.
- Article 7 (Restriction of Use and Deregistration)

1. The Secretariat may, without prior notice, restrict all or part of a User's access to the Service, or cancel the User's registration, if the User falls under any of the following circumstances:
1.1 Violation of any provision of these Terms
1.2 Discovery that any registered information contains false facts
1.3 Default on the obligation to pay the participation registration fee
1.4 Failure to respond to communications from the Secretariat for a certain period of time
1.5 Determination that registration was completed through a fraudulent application
1.6 Any other case where the Secretariat deems use of the Service to be inappropriate2. The Secretariat shall bear no responsibility for any damages incurred by Users as a result of actions taken under the preceding paragraph.
- Article 8 (Withdrawal)

Users may withdraw from the Service by contacting the Secretariat via email.
- Article 9 (Disclaimer of Warranties and Limitation of Liability)

1. The Secretariat makes no warranties, express or implied, that the Service is free from factual or legal defects (including defects related to safety, reliability, accuracy, completeness, effectiveness, fitness for a particular purpose, security, errors, bugs, or infringement of rights).
2. The Secretariat shall bear no responsibility for any damages incurred by Users arising from the Service.
3. The Secretariat shall bear no responsibility for any transactions, communications, or disputes arising between Users and other Users or third parties in connection with the Service.
- Article 10 (Changes to Service Content)

The Secretariat may change the content of the Service or discontinue the Service without notifying Users, and shall bear no responsibility for any damages incurred by Users as a result.
- Article 11 (Amendments to the Terms)

The Secretariat may amend these Terms at any time without notifying Users when it deems it necessary. If a User begins using the Service after any amendment to these Terms, that User shall be deemed to have agreed to the amended Terms.
- Article 12 (Handling of Personal Information)

The Secretariat shall handle personal information obtained through the use of the Service appropriately in accordance with the Secretariat's Privacy Policy.
- Article 13 (Notices and Communications)

Notices and communications between Users and the Secretariat shall be sent to the contact information registered by the User. Unless the Secretariat has received a change of contact information from the User, it shall deem the currently registered contact information to be valid, and any notice or communication sent to that contact shall be deemed to have reached the User at the time of dispatch.
- Article 14 (Prohibition on Assignment of Rights and Obligations)

Users may not transfer or pledge as collateral their status under the service agreement, or any rights or obligations under these Terms, to any third party without the prior written consent of the Secretariat.
- Article 15 (Governing Law and Jurisdiction)

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Japan.
These Terms have been translated into English from the original Japanese version.
In the event of any conflict, inconsistency, or discrepancy between the two versions, the Japanese version shall take precedence.
