Lyon is a great university city, with more than 140,000 students in various fields: one can study physics, mechanics, but also letters, international law. The university is also well known for medicine and mathematics! The students come from many continents and the cultural exchanges are very easy: they are really open minded.
In Lyon, we have been developing joint projects with friends from Tohoku University for more than 20 years, in a complementary way: our different cultures lead us sometimes to think differently to solve even more complex problems. It's the beauty of collaborative research...
Working at IFS Lyon Center and living in Lyon will give you the best opportunity to combine your passion for science and discovering a culture where good taste and beauty are as important as in Japan, but so different! You are welcome to join us! -
Kaori Yuse
Associate Professor, INSA-Lyon
Hi everyone. I was born in Japan and has been an associate professor at INSA for 15 years. I work in the field of research called "intelligent systems/materials" and I teach physics. Student life here is very different from that in Japan. I hope we can help you appreciate this difference. Such an experience in your early years will benefit you in your future life!

My research activities are focused on the development of tools for characterizing ceramic materials, mainly by scanning and transmission electron microscopy. In transmission electron microscopy, I develop in situ nanocompression to determine the behavior of ceramic materials at the nanometric scale (highlighting of plasticity).

Carole Frindel
Associate Professor, INSA-Lyon
Since 2011, I am an associate professor at the biomedical imaging research laboratory of the Institut National des Sciences Appliquees in Lyon. My current interests are the simulation and the applications of machine learning to major health issues, including the prediction of vascular pathologies. I hope students from Japan will enjoy their research and students' life in Lyon.
