The National Chiao Tung University (Taiwan) has produced world-class research results and papers in the field of microelectronics and played a vital role in development of electronics industry in Taiwan, a world leader in semiconductors, by both research and human resource development. On the other hand, Tohoku University has produced world-class research results and papers in the field of materials science. Tohoku University and National Chiao Tung University established an international joint laboratory for interdisciplinary and complementary research collaboration between the two universities. Tohoku University's strength in material science and National Chiao Tung University's strength in semiconductor technology, together are making rapid progress in research. This joint laboratory aims to jointly tackle the urgent issues in the three areas that will become the foundation for realizing a sustainable and smart society, and to build an academic foundation for problem solving. Specifically, the 3 areas of study and areas which are the foundation of AI and IoT societies are: 1) Renewable independent hydrogen energy systems, 2) Millimetric wave smart radar systems, and 3) Biomedical sensor networks. This international joint laboratory aims to serve as a hub for human interaction, to accumulate knowledge, international joint research and international industry-academia collaboration, etc.
