Nurturing Young Researchers

To work on challenges in ammonia combustion and materials research, we will implement four programs: Summer School, Student Sessions at the ICFD, Migratory Training for Young Researchers, and the International Graduate School, Graduate School of Excellence Program.

【Summer School】
Our Summer School is held once per year and focuses on an important topic related to multiscale and multiphysical phenomena in ammonia combustion and materials research. We select a topic from among the following: 1) combustion analysis, 2) materials research, and 3) physical property analysis.
Planned locations: Sendai (Japan), Thuwal(Saudi Arabia), Lyon (France), Seattle (USA), and Hsinchu (Taiwan)
【International Conference on Flow Dynamics】
Since 2004, the Institute of Fluid Science has held the International Conference on Flow Dynamics (ICFD) in Sendai. At this conference, students from universities in Japan, Saudi Arabia, France, the United States, and Taiwan co-chair, plan, and administrate sessions on research topics related to this project.
【Migratory Training for Young Researchers】
Graduate students and young researchers based at each of the member institutions (the Institute of Fluid Science, Tohoku University, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, the Universities of Lyon, the University of Washington, and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University) will spend more than a month researching at two or more of the institutions. In addition, each university will establish a support system for graduate students’ stays and provide support for double-degree education in cooperation with Tohoku University’s SGU.
【The International Graduate School, Graduate School of Excellence Program】
In collaboration with Tohoku University’s accredited programs, we will foster doctoral students who develop problem-solving and international standards capabilities through international joint research.

To the researchers participating in this project

We aim to improve the overall abilities of young researchers and develop them into world-class talent through the four diverse programs of this project—Summer School, Student Sessions at the ICFD, Migratory Training for Young Researchers, and the International Graduate School, Graduate School of Excellence Program.
