Twenty-third International Conference on Flow Dynamics November 9 - 12, 2026, Sendai, Miyagi, JAPAN

SCOPE

The 23rd International Conference on Flow Dynamics (ICFD2026), part of an annual conference series established in 2004, will be held from November 9 to 12, 2026, in Sendai, Japan. The objective of ICFD2026 is to explore new horizons in science and technology related to Flow Dynamics through discussions and information exchange on advanced scientific research and cutting-edge technologies. ICFD is widely recognized by researchers and engineers worldwide as one of the largest and most important international conferences in the field of Flow Dynamics. It has also played a significant role in promoting international research collaborations. In particular, ICFD2026 will focus on energy-related topics, including clean energy, hydrogen energy, and natural energy. In addition, ICFD provides young researchers and students with unique opportunities for professional development through active participation in the conference, and outstanding contributions by young researchers and students are encouraged through awards.

The first nine ICFDs were hosted under two Tohoku University COE Programs: the 21st Century International COE on Fluid Dynamics (21COE, 2003–2007) and its successor, the Global COE Program World Center of Education and Research for Trans-disciplinary Flow Dynamics (GCOE, 2008–2012). Both programs were organized by the Institute of Fluid Science (IFS), Tohoku University. Following the completion of the GCOE program in March 2013, IFS was reorganized, on the occasion of its 70th anniversary, into a more comprehensive research institute, particularly strengthening its activities in energy-related research through the establishment of three new research divisions and an Innovative Energy Research Center. In this context, IFS decided to continue supporting the ICFD conference series, and ICFD has been held annually since 2013. We are committed to maintaining the dynamism and spirit of ICFD as a forum for both distinguished scientists in Flow Dynamics and future generations of scientists and engineers.

Flow Dynamics, as a core component of Integrated Flow Science, focuses on the study of flow and transport phenomena involving electrons, molecules, nanoscale particles, and continuum fluids with or without chemical reactions, as well as materials, energy, information, and related systems. ICFD is expected to play a significant role in promoting Flow Dynamics as a major academic discipline capable of addressing critical challenges faced by human society, such as energy issues, global warming, resource sustainability, declining birthrates and aging populations, disease-related problems, and disaster prevention. We invite all scientists and engineers working in or interested in these areas to participate in ICFD2026, expand their research frontiers, and strengthen international research networks.

ICFD serves as a platform for discussion aimed at achieving scientific understanding and engineering solutions to a wide range of flow-related problems. Relevant research topics include, but are not limited to:

・Energy   ・Combustion  ・Turbulence  ・Multiphase flow
・Interfaces ・Microfluidics ・Functional fluids ・Supercritical fluids
・Thermoacoustics ・Thermal control ・Materials  ・Biology
・Soft matter ・Pollutants ・Microphysiology  ・Oncology
・Semiconductors ・Rocket propulsion ・Aerosciences ・Digital transformation
・MSBS ・PSP/TSP

ICFD2026 also welcomes discussion related to philosophy in the age of AI to brdige the gap between science and society.

We cordially invite researchers, educators, students, and engineers to participate in ICFD2026. We are confident that you will enjoy both the stimulating academic discussions and the beautiful autumn atmosphere of Sendai, as mid-November is one of the most pleasant seasons in the city.
