Hello there, it’s Márton. I am a postdoctoral research fellow from the Nakamura/Kanayama laboratory.

On October 14–17, 2025, Nakamura-sensei and I participated in the 20th International Conference on Numerical Combustion, held in Rome, Italy. It was my first time attending this conference, but I could already tell that its audience is a close-knit community, which created a very friendly atmosphere.

One might assume that “numerical combustion” is a rather narrow topic, but I was surprised by how wide the range of research directions actually is within this field. Besides having fruitful discussions after my presentation on our recent results in generating a simplified natural-gas reaction model, I also learned about recent advancements in several fascinating areas, such as the use of AI in combustion science and the computational challenges of droplets, sprays, and real-gas effects.

During the conference, we also met Murakami-san, a former member of our group who is currently working in Belgium. He gave a presentation on enhancing model optimization with independent component analysis, which was particularly interesting to me as it is close to my research interests. Outside the conference, we enjoyed Italian food and the amazing historical heritage of Rome.

皆さん、こんにちは。中村・金山研究室の博士研究員の、マートンです。

2025年10月14日から17日にかけて、中村先生と私はイタリアのローマで開催された「第20回 Numerical Combustion 国際会議（ICNC）」に参加してきました。 私にとってこの会議への参加は初めてでしたが、参加者同士の結びつきが強く、非常にフレンドリーな雰囲気を感じることができました。

「数値燃焼」と聞くと一見かなり限定された研究分野のように思えますが、実際には非常に幅広い研究テーマが扱われており、その多様さに驚きました。 私は、最近取り組んでいる「天然ガス反応モデルの簡略化」に関する成果を発表し、有益な議論を行うことができました。また、燃焼研究におけるAIの活用や、液滴・噴霧・実在気体効果に関する計算上の課題など、興味深い最新研究についても学ぶことができました。会議期間中には、現在ベルギーで活躍されている当研究室OBの村上さんにもお会いしました。村上さんは独立成分分析を用いたモデル最適化の高度化について発表されており、私の研究テーマにも近い内容だったため、とても興味深く聞かせていただきました。

会議の合間には、イタリア料理を楽しんだり、ローマの素晴らしい歴史的建造物を見て回ったりする機会にも恵まれました。 次回（おそらく2027年）にまた参加できることを楽しみにしています！
