Hello there, it’s Márton, a postdoctoral research fellow from the Nakamura/Kanayama laboratory.

On February 22–23, 2026, Nakamura-sensei, Kanayama-sensei, Nishimura
-san, Anand-san, and I — together with other professors and students from IFS — participated in the KAUST–Tohoku Core-to-Core Workshop on Integrated Flow Science, held at KAUST in Thuwal, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The technical program was diverse, covering a wide range of topics. All five of us gave presentations, each followed by ample time for insightful discussions. I presented our recent algorithm for model generation and received many good questions — far more than at a typical conference — which made me really happy. We also learned about the latest advancements from various research groups at IFS, spanning topics from biomedical engineering to spray combustion. And of course, we heard about KAUST’s recent results in forward‑looking areas such as plasma-assisted combustion and polymer membrane development for redox-flow batteries.

After the technical sessions, we were invited to take part in recreational activities at a desert camp, which included sports such as tennis, football, and billiards; a very fun buggy tour on the dunes; a desert sunset hike; and an amazing Arabic cuisine dinner, followed by a spectacular fire‑breathing performance (whose carbon footprint we decided to turn a blind eye to 😉).

We deeply appreciate the kind hospitality of the KAUST people and look forward to further collaborations.

2026年2月22日から23日にかけて、中村先生、金山先生、西村さん、アナンドさん、そして私の5名は、流体科学研究所（IFS）の他の先生方や学生の皆さんと共に、サウジアラビア王国のトゥワルにあるKAUSTで開催された「KAUST–Tohoku Core-to-Core Workshop on Integrated Flow Science」に参加してきました。

技術プログラムは非常に多彩で、幅広い研究テーマが取り上げられていました。私たち5名もそれぞれ発表を行い、発表後には十分な時間をかけて活発な議論が行われました。私は最近開発したモデル生成アルゴリズムについて発表しましたが、通常の国際会議よりも多くの質問をいただき、とても嬉しく感じました。

また、医工学から噴霧燃焼まで、流体研（IFS）のさまざまな研究グループによる最新の進展を学ぶことができました。もちろん、KAUST側からも、プラズマ支援燃焼やレドックスフロー電池用のポリマー膜開発といった先駆的な分野における最新の成果を伺うことができ、大変刺激を受けました。

技術セッションの後には、砂漠のキャンプで行われたレクリエーションにも招待されました。テニスやサッカー、ビリヤードといったスポーツのほか、砂丘を走るバギーツアーや砂漠でのサンセットハイキング、そして素晴らしいアラビア料理のディナーを楽しみました。食事の後には、火を吹くパフォーマンスも披露され、大いに盛り上がりました（これによる二酸化炭素排出量については、今回は見なかったことにしましょう 😉）。
