TRAVEL INFORMATION
There are two major routes from Narita International Airport to
Sendai/Matsushima: "By air" and "By rail".
By rail:
- First take East Japan Railway (JR) Narita Express from Narita Airport terminal 1 or 2 Station to Tokyo Station. It takes just around an hour.
- Then transfer to Tohoku Shinkansen (Bullet Train) at Tokyo Station. There are four types: Hayate and Komachi (combined for Sendai, all seats reserved, fastest), Yamabiko, MAX-Yamabiko (two-storied, slowest). Do not use Tsubasa, Nasuno, MAX-Nasuno, Toki, MAX-Toki, Tanigawa, MAX-Tanigawa or Asama, which do not take you to Sendai. Hayate and Komachi take just 100 minutes to get to Sendai (only two stops). If you go directly to Matsushima, transfer to local train (Senseki Line) at Sendai, and it takes around half an hour to reach Matsushima-Kaigan.
