Invited lecturer to 41st European Physical Society Conference on Plasma Physics
Professor Samukawa gave the invited lecture at European Physical Society Conference on Plasma Physics as the representative of Japan recommended by the Japan Society of Applied Physics. He was invited for his accomplishments as the inventor of pulse-modulated plasma, which makes up nearly half of systems sold in the global semiconductor plasma etching market. His lecture on pulse-modulated plasma and its extension, neutral beam, was enthusiastically received. Berlin is an extremely quiet city. It has a tragic history of being divided into East and West Berlin during the Cold War. Professor Samukawa made this trip alone. He listened quietly to lectures on plasma physics, which he had not done in a long time. He also passed time in front of the Berlin Wall for a while. Professor Samukawa said that since he invented pulse-modulated plasma in 1992, he had been working in a frenzy to be the world leader. This conference gave him the opportunity to forget himself and find himself again.
