New Year 2016 greeting from Professor Samukawa
I welcomed the first day of the New Year with clear skies without a single cloud. Watching from Kugenuma-Kaigan, I was moved by the simultaneous sights of the first sunrise emerging from Enoshima and this morning sun shining on Mount Fuji. Gazing at this view, I pledged to challenge myself to further develop the lab this year. It was an intense research environment last year, but we were able to build new search bases and lay the seeds of new research in collaboration with organizations such as National Chiao Tung University and AIST, thanks to your cooperation. This year is the year to nurture these seeds and bear fruit. We did not necessarily get an enjoyable view of the semiconductor industry last year. It is necessary that this year we have a research approach with different exits to industry. And, because a lab by itself has limits in its research activities, we must seek strong industry-government-academia partnerships within this university and outside, and within Japan and outside Japan. I myself want to embrace all sorts of challenges while further expanding research and overcoming such harsh conditions with the cooperation of all of you. I also expect you to resolutely tackle new challenges. Whatfs more, IEEE Nano 2016 in August will be a huge event for this lab. Because this event is a tremendous opportunity to present Japanese technologies to the world, I wish for your support and cooperation. This year may be busier than last year. I want you to work hard while taking care of your body and spirit. Letfs surprise the world together!
