Collaborative discussions with Dr. N. P. Stepina of the Rzhanov Institute of Semiconductor Physics during one-week stopover (June 6-10, 2016)

Dr. N. P. Stepina, senior researcher at the Rzhanov Institute of Semiconductor Physics (Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences) visited Samukawa Lab in June for a week of collaborative discussions, and worked together with Professor Samukawa in preparing several samples to assess optical, electrical, and spin properties of silicon and germanium quantum dots. Supported by Assistant Professor Noda and postdoctoral researcher Zaman, these collaborative experiments were highly significant. Dr. Stepina took the samples back to Russia, and plans to assess various properties after regrowth and surface processing.

Russia is particularly strong in basic physics and has enormous potential in semiconductor physics. By combining the strength of Samukawa Lab in practical applications with Russia's Institute of Semiconductor Physics, wemay be able to achieve significant research. While this is our first joint initiative, it certainly will not be our last if we continue to cooperate into the indefinite future. We visited a Buddhist temple over the weekend, and Dr. Stepina will soon be on his way back to Russia. We look forward to significant development in the years ahead.
