IEEE Nano 2016 is a great success with Professor Samukawa serving as Organizing Chairman (August 22 - 25, 2016)
IEEE Nano 2016 was a great success with Professor Samukawa serving as Organizing Chairman.
The conference had 420 participants and 316 presentations including plenary, keynote address, and regular presentations (the acceptance rate for submissions was 77%). The exhibitions were also a success with 25 booths and throngs of participants up until the closing of the conference.
There was active discussion of nanotechnology-based IoT, computing, and robotics, as exemplified by the IBM special session. In addition, special sessions on nano-manufacturing technology and MEMS, in which Japan holds a significant lead, were held, generating lively discussion generally not experienced in Japan. The future direction of nanotechnology in Japan was thoroughly aired by such illustrious participants as Dr. Satomi, President of Tohoku University; Dr. Kanayama, Senior Vice-President of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST); Dr. Kanemaru, Vice President of the Japan Society of Applied Physics (JSAP); Dr. Nakamura, previous President of Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST); and Dr. Harayama, Trustee of the Japan Research Institute (JRI).
By mobilizing various nanotechnology initiatives, Japan may have the opportunity to lead the world in this area.
