Life in lab

After joining our lab

5th Sem.
1st Qtr.
Assignment to lab
5th Sem.
2nd Qtr.
Seminar Ⅱ
The students will read an English research paper and present the outline in September.
6th Sem. Seminars for 3rd year students
Introduction to molecular dynamics and programming (about 2 hours, once per week).
There will be no other obligations, so students can focus on their classes.
7th Sem. Assignment of research topic
The research topic will be assigned at the beginning of 7th semester.
From June, students will focus on studying for the entrance exams of graduate school.
8th Sem. Beginning of bachelor research
Research activities will fully start after the entrance exams.
Graduate students and assistant professors will provide support for the research topic.
Depending on students' progress and topic, meetings will be held once a week or every two weeks to help direct their research.
If it is joint research with a company, meetings with company researchers will be held about once every two months.
1st year of master's In the 1st semester, students will attend classes as well as research in the lab.
After the 2nd semester, students will mainly concentrate on research.
2nd year of master's Students who are not advance to Ph.D course will start job-hunting from spring of the 2nd year of master course.
Afterwards, students will focus on research and writing their master's thesis.

Careers

Because most of students use the open job matching system provided by the Division of Mechanical Engineering, finding employment is not affected much by lab affiliation. Nonetheless, students tend to be employed by manufacturers such as
Aisin Seiki, Asahi Kasei, Canon, Hitachi Plant Technologies, JX Nippon Mining & Metals, Kao, Kubota, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Mizuho Information & Research Institute, NISSAN, NTN, NTT DATA, SanDisk, Schlumberger, Tamasu, Tokyo Electric Power Company, Tokyo Electron, and Toyota.

We believe that students who mastered fundamentals of mechanical engineering and enriched their wisdom with cutting edge molecular scale research will certainly succeed in any company.
