Saudi ArabiaKAUST(King Abdullah University of Science and Technology)
King Abdullah University of Science and Technology is a private research university located in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia. Founded in 2009, the university provides research and graduate training programs in English as the official language of instruction. KAUST focuses research on food, water, energy, the environment, and digital.
Research theme
Ammonia and Hydrogen Combustion Research
Detailed investigations are conducted to understand the chemica l pathways for various blend fuels (NH3/CH4, NH3/H2, NH3/HC). In particular, the cross reactivity of C-N and the effects of NOx need arestudied in order to achieve clean and efficient ammonia combustion systems. Furthermore, quantitative diagnostic measurements are needed to validate the kinetic mechanisms. For example, the chemiluminescence intensities from radicals provide critical information about he at release rate and mixture composition.

- Interested in plasma assisted ammonia utilization, including cracking and combustion. In particular, plasma-chemical kinetic study with ammonia is main focus in this direction; both experimental and numerical methods, using a temperature controlled DBD reactor and 0D plasma-chemical model, respectively, are of interest way to explore the underlying science for practical application.

- Interested in practical and theoretical aspects of ammonia combustion, particularly at high pressure. Blending with hydrocarbons and H2/N2 mixtures in practical hardware, including gas turbines and large bore internal combustion engines, is a research focus. Laminar and turbulent burning velocities of ammonia, neat and blended, are also of interest.
