The Transdisciplinary Fluid Integration (TFI) Research Center has been established in April 2003 by expanding Shock Wave Research Center, Institute of Fluid Science, Tohoku University. The main purpose of this research center is to address transdisciplinary fluid problems by means of a new research methodology. Fluid science is essential to sustainable development of human beings relating to various research fields of importance, such as environment, life science, information technology, and nanotechnology. To tackle these problems, we are developing the research method by integrating experimental and computational methods. Integration of experimental and computational methods leads to significant improvements in efficiency and accuracy for solving transdisciplinary fluid problems in various science and engineering fields. A new research field of fluid informatics is being cultivated through strong interaction of scientists and engineers in different research fields.
The research center consists of the core research division for fundamental research and the targeted research division for project-oriented researches.
